Avery Lindsay is Passionate About Astronomy and Astrophotography

MVOLA tenth grader Avery Lindsay is passionate about astronomy and astrophotography. Using a standard DSLR camera, he takes amazing pictures of night sky objects. A lot goes into creating these incredible shots. For a single photograph, he may spend hours on a sub-freezing night getting the shot, and then a significant amount of time processing the photo. “Processing” is not doctoring a photo or adding things that weren’t there, it’s bringing out what is in the photo for the best result.

Avery loves sharing his passion. His curiosity in astronomy led him to connect with the board that oversees the observatory in Del Norte, and his enthusiasm led to him being given a key to the observatory where he tracks night sky wonders through the telescope there.

As a part of the requirements for his Astro-photography class with Mr. Oden, Avery gave an enthusiastic presentation at the observatory where he showed some of his favorite night sky photos, shared the history of the observatory, and gave audience members views through the telescope of fascinating objects including the Andromeda Galaxy, Ring Nebula, and Saturn.

If you would like to be notified when Avery schedules another Observatory presentation (likely in March), email Mr. Oden at dirk@monte.k12.co.us
