Teens in Need
The MVHS Student Council in conjunction with our Youth Advisory Team and funding from the CRUSH Grant has created a “safe space” for our students. This room has been named the TIN (Teens In Need) Room. This is a room in the library that has been turned into a welcoming, comforting space where students who are having a bad day can come in, relax, and feel safe. We also have peer counselors. These counselors are students who have been trained to talk to the students about what is upsetting them, and try to provide a “peer point of view” and understanding for the student who is in crisis. In certain instances where the problem may be too much for a peer counselor, the student is then referred to the high school counselor. Even though we just started the TIN Room this school year, we are already utilizing it every day. The students are opening up more and more, and are feeling comfortable talking about their emotions and problems.
The TIN room is also being used as a space for Peer Mediation. Peer Mediation is a way for students to resolve conflicts by utilizing trained peer mediators. The Student Council currently has 20 trained mediators to facilitate conflict resolution.
Monte Vista High School is continually looking forward toward the future. We strive not only for excellence in education for our students, but for their well being and mental health as well.
